There are two types of alpacas - huacayas and suris.
Back in 2001 we purchased huacaya alpacas and started breeding them. But then, one of our huacaya dams (who had been mated to a suri herdsire) had a suri cria and we fell in love with the suri fleece! Practically all of our alpacas are now suris and we have been breeding for lustre, fineness and pencil thin locks.

This is a photo of Peruvian Sarah Suri, one of the original foundation stock imported from Peru. She is a very protective female and watches out for all members of the herd. No need for a guard llama with Sarah Suri around! At 14 years of age, she is retired from breeding, but she takes her job as guardian of the other alpacas very seriously.
